Obituary: Fredrick Zishka

Fredrick Herman Zishka, 90, of Worthington, was born on December 9, 1922, in Chicago, IL, the son of Fredrick W. and Wilhelmine Zishka. He grew up in Chicago, IL, joining the United States Army during World War II. He married LaVonne Larsen on February 5, 1949, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dundee, MN. He retired from the city of Worthington street department prior to moving to Fulda and operating a bowling alley in 1968. They then moved to Fairmont, MN, in 1970 where he worked at Armour Foods. In, 1989, they retired to their acreage on Buffalo Lake, outside of Trimont, MN, until their move back to Worthington in 2002. In the last few years of his life, he lived in Indiana and Colorado enjoying time with his family. He and his family spent many years camping, boating and hunting. Fred died peacefully on December 21, 2012, in the home of his son Steve Zishka, in Fort Wayne, IN.

Fred is survived by two sons, Steve Zishka, and his wife, Stephanie, of Fort Wayne, IN, and Mike Zishka, of Sioux City, IA; one daughter, Gloria Delgado, of Fort Collins, CO, and six grandchildren, James, Crystal, Mikell, Zachary, Ian and Jake. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, LaVonne and brother, Carl.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., at Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, with Father Jim Callahan officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Worthington.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
