Alice Mary DeGroot, age 85, of Worthington, died Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the Meadows in Worthington.
Alice Mary DeGroot, age 85, of Worthington, died Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the Meadows in Worthington. She was born on April 29, 1927 in Worthington to parents Patrick and Elsie (Christensen) O’Neil. She grew up in the Kinbrae/Fulda area and attended school at Fulda High School and graduated in 1945. After graduation she moved to Worthington and was a waitress in a café for two of her friends. This is the place where she met Harm. His brother Hank was picking him up from the depot coming back from the service and told him he had someone he wanted him to meet and the rest is history.
Alice was united in marriage to Harm DeGroot on March 23, 1946 in Brewster, MN. They lived their entire married life in Worthington and were involved with their trucking business.
Alice was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Worthington and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed walking, word finds, going to the casino and most of all spending time with family.
She is survived by her sons, Dennis (Rafella) DeGroot, Worthington, Steve (Diane) DeGroot, Worthington, Greg (Cindy) DeGroot, Worthington, and Jeff (Barb) DeGroot, Worthington, daughters, Pat (Mick) Eggers, Worthington, Connie DeGroot, Worthington, Pam (Jim) Olson, Onamia, MN; Vicki (Dean) Selberg, Bigelow, and Deb Boltjes and special friend, Randy Harms, Worthington, fifteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, brother, Frank (Shirley) O’Neil, Worthington; sister, Delores Rachuy, Slayton; and sister-in-law, Louise O’Neil, Worthington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harm in 1994, two brothers, Donald and Daryle and one sister, Barbara.
Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 8 PM at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at the church.
The funeral service will be Monday at 10:00 AM at the American Lutheran Church in Worthington with the Pastor Renee Tecklenburg officiating. Burial will be in the Worthington Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to Hospice Cottage, Inc., P.O. Box 203, Worthington, MN 56187.
