Raymond E. Wolff, age 92, of Brewster, MN; passed away peacefully, Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at the Veterans Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD. Raymond was diagnosed with a very aggressive lung cancer in October 2012.
Raymond was born April 11, 1920 at their home in Alpha, MN; to Charles and Mary (Schlager) Wolff. He attended the District 39 School until 1933. After that he was called to work on his father’s farm rather than continue his education. He was honored with his High School diploma through a VA program in May of 2012. Raymond entered the US Army Air Corp April 15, 1942. He served as an electrician during World War II in Germany setting up tents for Gen. Patton. He landed on Omaha Beach June 1944 during the invasion of Normandy France. He was honorably discharged from the military after three years, five months and nineteen days on October 18, 1945.
He married Dominica “Doris” Chavez on May 3, 1943 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Raymond and Doris lived in Lakefield, MN; Oconto WI; Okabena, MN; and then settled in the Brewster area. Raymond was a self employed carpenter until his retirement in 1982. He continued to do crafts and cabinetry during his retirement years. Raymond and Doris had been married sixty years at the time of her death in 2003. Raymond was a lifetime member of the Okabena Legion; he enjoyed fishing, playing cards, gardening and spending time with family and friends.
Raymond is survived by his son, Denis (Beverly) Wolff, of Brewster; step-son, Robert (Beth) Sanchez of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Angela (Gene) Meyer, of Round Lake; Andrea Jegede of Blaine, MN; great-grandchildren, Megan, Chelsea, Brady, Alexander, Natasha, Anthony and great-great granddaughter, Kamryn; Step-grandchildren Robert Jr, Donna and Brian; one brother, Jim Wolff (Ardell) of Pipestone, one sister Ruby (Orlo) Bennett of Lakefield and many friends, nieces, nephews and his puppy “Tish”.
Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one infant son, Glen, one brother John Wolff, two sisters, Gladys Schmoll and Mary Ann Wilde.
Visitation will be Monday from 9 to 11 AM at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington.
The Memorial Service will be Monday at 11 AM at the Dingmann Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Yackel-Juleen officiating. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Brewster, MN; with full military honors.
