Obituary: Jessie Rossow
Jessie Amelia Rossow, 97, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at Crossroads Care Center, Worthington.
Jessie Amelia Rossow, age 97, was born on June 2, 1915, to Daniel and Madie (Dierks) McNab at their home in Brewster, MN. She moved with her parents to the family farm just south of Brewster at the age of 6. She attended school in Brewster and graduated from Brewster High School in 1933 and attended a bookkeeping course in Brewster. Jessie worked as a medical assistant to various families in the area until she married LeRoy Rossow on January 26, 1944. They farmed in Jackson County most of their married life and lived on their farm located 1 ½ miles south of Brewster, MN, from 1953 until January 1, 2006. Jessie moved to the Meadows in Worthington, MN, January 1, 2006 and enjoyed living in the same facility with her sister, Marguerite Ruckelshausen and husband, Albert and many other friends from the Brewster area. From November 2009, Jessie resided at the Crossroads Care Center in Worthington, MN, until her death on Sunday, January 27, 2013.
Jessie loved music and sang in Glee Club in high school and also sang in the church choir, the Nobles County “Nobleaires”, Gingham Girls Club and was very active in the Brewster Senior Citizens, playing in the Humdinger Band for many years. She was chosen outstanding Senior Citizen of Brewster in 1990. Jessie was active in Ladies Aid in her church and also taught Sunday school when she was younger. She also loved playing the piano and her Roland organ. Jessie especially loved having people visit. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren had a special place in her heart.
Jessie is survived by her son, John “Jack” (Christine) Rossow of Gibbon, MN; brother, Harold (Dolly) McNab, Worthington, MN; brother-in-law, Albert Ruckelshausen, Worthington, MN; grandson, Jason Rossow, and granddaughter, Leah (Jason) Palm, Windom, MN; four great grandsons; one great granddaughter; three step grandchildren, and cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends to cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy, two brothers and their spouses, Roland (Hazel) McNab and Ralph (Alice) McNab; sister, Marguerite Ruckelshausen; sister-in-law, Suellen McNab, and her parents.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Brewster, MN, with Pastor Robert Bartlett officiating. Casket bearers will be Terry McNab, Brett McNab, David McNab, Rod McNab, Gary McNab, and Jason Rossow. Honorary bearers will be Robert Ruckelshausen and Arlen Rossow. Burial will be in the Hersey Cemetery near Brewster.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 30, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
