Obituary: MIldred Greiner

Mildred H. Greiner, 89, of Long Prairie, MN, formerly of Lakefield, passed away on Friday, January 25, 2013 at the Central Care Health System in Long Prairie.

Mildred H. Greiner, 89, of Long Prairie, MN, formerly of Lakefield, passed away on Friday, January 25, 2013 at the Central Care Health System in Long Prairie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, February 1, 2013 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lakefield with Father Brian Sutton officiating. Burial will follow immediately after the service at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Church.

Mildred Helen Greiner was born on January 27, 1924 in Lakefield, Minnesota, the daughter of Judd and Helen (Roesner) Palmer. She graduated from Lakefield High School in 1942. She was united in marriage to George Dewey Greiner, Jr. on May 31, 1943 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Yuma, Arizona. She had worked in the Defense Plant in Minneapolis from September 14, 1942 until June of 1944. At which time, George returned to the states and Mildred joined him for the next 16 months. She traveled with him to all the Air Forces Bases that he was stationed at. After his discharge in November of 1945, they moved back to Lakefield. She was a housewife until 1970, when she went to work as a Pink Lady at the local hospital and nursing home. She then went back to school to become a certified nursing assistant. She went back to the hospital and nursing home as a CNA, working there for several years at which time she retired with her husband. George passed away on January 28, 2007. On December 19 2006 she became a resident of the Colonial Manor in Lakefield before moving to CentraCare Health System in Long Prairie on October 21, 2010. Mildred passed there on January 25, 2013 at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 27 days.

Mildred was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lakefield, where she was a member of the St. Veronica’s Guild. She enjoyed baking and cooking along with many crafts that she did with her family. Her family was a very important part of her life.

Mildred is survived by her two daughters, Patricia (Harold) Reith of Long Prairie and Linda (Kevin) Anderson of Lakefield; a son, Gerald (Deanna) Greiner of Windom, Minnesota; 5 grandchildren, Robert, Steven and Joshua (Jessica) Reith, Ryan and Patrick Anderson; two great-grandsons, Elliot Anderson and Mitchell Reith; a sister, Lavonne (Melvin) Olson of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; a brother, Donald (Diane) Palmer of Lakefield; 2 sisters-in-law, Doris Palmer of Worthington and Loretta Palmer of Lakefield.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; two brothers, Judd and Thomas Palmer and a sister, Donna Mae Palmer.
