Obituary: John BosJohn Peter Bos, age 94, of Worthington, died on Monday, February 18, 2013, at the South Shore Care Center in Worthington, MN. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at Worthington Christian Reformed Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Adam Eisenga officiating. Burial will be in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

John Peter Bos, age 94, of Worthington, died on Monday, February 18, 2013, at the South Shore Care Center in Worthington, MN. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at Worthington Christian Reformed Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Adam Eisenga officiating. Burial will be in the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
John was born March 21, 1918, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to Willem and Margaret (Pilon) Bos. At the age of one, the family moved to Manhattan, Montana where he attended Christian school and Manhattan High School. In 1936, during the Great Depression, the family moved to Bellflower, California where he worked for General Motors.
John was united in marriage to Nellie Zevenbergen on August 6, 1941 in Worthington. They lived in California and John continued to work for GM until it closed for World War II. He then worked in the shipyards until 1943 when they moved to Minnesota to begin his dream of farming. In 1950, they bought a farm near Brewster where they lived for 31 years. He was a member of Farm Management and served on the Brewster Elevator Board. In 1982, John and Nellie left the farm and moved into Worthington.
In retirement, they wintered in Mesa, Arizona for 20 years. He joined the wood-working club there and family and friends were recipients of much of his work. He enjoyed golf and played senior league at Prairie View Golf Club until age 92. He was also an avid reader. John was a member of the Worthington Christian Reformed Church and served as elder, catechism and Sunday school teacher, and sang in the choirs. He was a board member of the Worthington Christian School and served 7 years on Christian Schools International.
John is survived by his wife of 71 years, Nellie; three sons, Maynard (Linda) of Oak Harbor, WA, Dr. Gordon (Lois) of Willmar, MN, and Milton (Cherie) of Holland, MI; a daughter, Julane (Steve) Bellin of Tinley Park, IL; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Charlotte Molendyk Ridder; two brothers-in-law, Hugh Molendyk and Gerry Ridder; and an infant granddaughter, Pamela Bellin.
Memorials are preferred to Worthington Christian Schools or Hospice.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 22, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
