Obituary: Marvin Baumgard
Marvin E. Baumgard, 88, died March 7, 2013,
Marvin E. Baumgard, 88, was born April 5, 1924, in Ewington Township, Jackson County, Minnesota. He passed away March 7, 2013, on the same day as his mother’s birthday, with his loving wife and family by his side. Marvin was the son of Rudy and Caroline Hecht Baumgard. He was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster. Marvin attended country school and graduated from Brewster High School in 1943.
As a junior in high school, Marvin started his trucking business and later did custom corn shelling. He farmed the majority of his life up to the year 2010. Marvin raised sheep and Shetland ponies. He served on the Consolidated Co-op Elevator board, Brewster District 513 school board, and numerous other boards. Marvin also served as a Nobles County Commissioner. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing in Canada and the Alexandria, Minnesota, area.
Marvin was united in marriage to Betty Lou Smith on October 7, 1947, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. His family was very important to him. He was always there for them and leaves in his legacy, a hard work ethic and honesty.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Betty, of 65 years and children Cheryl (Jim) Weinandt of Windom, Jay (Beth) Baumgard of Brewster, Tom (Judy) Baumgard of Windom, Tim (Julie) Baumgard of Brewster, Jon (Cindy) Baumgard of Avon, and Bruce Baumgard and special friend, Mayuree Sompamitwong of Worthington. Eight grandchildren, Angela, Damon, Heath, Meggin, Amy, Bryan, April and Mary, and six great-grandchildren, Kalli, Kaitlyn, Keagen, Lauren, Layten, and Alivia. In addition, he is survived by four brothers, Raymond (Mavis) Baumgard of Okabena, Donald Baumgard of Brewster, Merle (Eunice) Baumgard of Round Lake, Darold (Alice) Baumgard of Rochester, and two sisters, Berdina (Harold) Hogan of Worthington, and Evonne Place of Lakefield. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters Edna, Alice, and Hazel, two brothers, Lester and Wesley, Harlan Place, who was raised as a brother, sister-in-law Norma, and one grandson Mark.
Visitation was held on Sunday, March 10, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster, Minnesota. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 11, with viewing at 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., and services at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster with the Rev. David P. McDonald officiating. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Casket bearers are Mike Baumgard, Keith Baumgard, Court Baumgard, Brad Baumgard, Craig Baumgard, and Greg Place. Honorary casket bearers are Mike Neumann and Jim Weaver.
Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.

So sorry to see the passing of Marv, my sorrow goes out to all of his family. I worked with Marv when he was a Nobles County Commissioner and I was the zoning administrator.
