Marie Alene Starkenburg
Marie Alene Starkenburg, age 94, was born on July 16, 1918, in George, IA, the daughter of Klaus and Amelia (Van Hauen) Klaassen. Marie married John E. Starkenburg on January 18, 1938, in Sibley, IA. She worked as a sales clerk in several downtown stores. After retiring, her hobbies included cooking and she was noted for her Christmas cookie trays. Marie enjoyed many crafts, especially dressing teddy bears. She loved flowers and grew many in her backyard. Marie died on Sunday, May 12, 2013, at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda, MN.

Marie is survived by one daughter, Lillian (Gil) Johnsson; one brother, Vernon Klaassen, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, and a sister and brother.
