Michael Kirkwood
Michael Kirkwood, age 60, a 14-year resident of Ft. Mohave, Ariz. died on Thursday, April 4, 2013 in Ft. Mohave. He was born on April 3, 1953 in Kansas City, Mo. He served as a Chief Warrant Officer in the United States Navy for 22 years, and worked as an Engineman for the BNSF Railroad. Michael was preceded in death by his sister, Pamela Kirkwood. He is survived by two sons, Carlton D. Kirkwood of San Francisco, California, and Marcus Kirkwood of Amarillo, Texas; father and mother, Joseph and Hannah Kirkwood of Smithfield, VA. ;brother, Andre Kirkwood, of Virginia Beach, VA. Henry Roy Pfeil
Henry Roy Pfeil was born March 20, 1931 to Roy and Mary Bird (Kirlin) Pfeil on the family farm. He was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical United Brethren Church. Henry was a devout Christian all his life. He attended early morning Bible study at the Gobbler and Bob’s Café for many years.

He graduated from Worthington H.S. in 1949. Henry joined the army and served in Stratford, England from 1954-56. While there, he was a proud bulldozer operator who helped build the airport that is still in use today.

Edward Lawrence Thiner passed away suddenly on March 20, 2013, at the age of 75 from a heart attack. Ed was born on the farm near Brewster, MN and resided in Merced for the past 56 years.

He was stationed at Castle Air Force Base when he met and married his wife of 51 years, Louise Carol Jordan. Ed worked at BAC-Pritchard for over 30 years as plant manager.

Donald T. Roos
Donald T. Roos, age 84, of Rushmore, MN; died Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born March 27, 1929 south of Rushmore to parents, Douglas E. and Lillian (Olson) Roos. Donald attended school in Rushmore and graduated from Worthington High School in 1947. He then attended the University of Minnesota Agriculture College for two years. After his schooling he served his nation during the Korean Conflict in the United States Air Force.

Donald was united in marriage to Gerry Gardner on June 6, 1951 at the First United Methodist Church in Worthington. After he was discharged from the service they made their home south east of Rushmore and were engaged in farming until 1990 when he retired because of his health.

Martha M. Vining
Martha M. Vining, 93, was born on November 30, 1919 in Wittenburg Township, Hutchison County, South Dakota, to Nathaniel and Dora (Harnish) Wudel. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith on January 25, 1920 in Parkston, SD by Rev. Lambertus. At the age of six, she moved with her family to Hanson County, living near Emery, SD. In the fall of 1931, she moved to Alexandria, SD. She was confirmed at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Alexandria, SD on July 1, 1934 by Rev. W.H. Jergens. Martha graduated from Alexandria High School in 1937.

Martha was united in marriage to Edward H. Vining on September 1, 1939, in Lake Andes, SD. They farmed near Ethan, SD until March of 1954 when they moved northeast of Mitchell to a farm near Plano. They lived there until they retired from farming in the fall of 1961 and moved to Alexandria, SD. While in Alexandria, Martha was a member of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, St. Martin’s Ladies Aid, and a Sunday school teacher.

Maxine Margaret Keller
Maxine Margaret Keller, 92, of Slayton, Minnesota died in her home on April 6, 2013 after finally being slowed down from her active lifestyle by thyroid cancer.

She was born July 31, 1920 at the Jacobson homestead in Leeds Township, Murray County to Harry and Bertha (Thorson) Jacobson. She attended grade school in Hadley and graduated from Slayton High School in 1938. She then graduated from Mankato Teacher’s College and taught country school near Hadley for 3 years.

Twyla Ruth Hungerford
Twyla Hungerford was born on July 13, 1941 in Slayton, Minnesota to Richard and Ruth Johnson Rongstad. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Dovray, MN. Twyla attended Westbrook High School graduating in 1959. Following graduation she attended Minnesota School of Lab and X Ray Technician. Following graduation she worked at the Slayton Clinic for doctor’s Pierson, Nywall and Bader. On February 22, 1963 she and Darrell Hungerford were married at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Following their marriage they made their home in Slayton and raised their two sons. In 1983 they purchased their own hardware business and also started Slayton Plumbing and Heating, which they owned and operated together until 1991 when they sold the business. They remained with Slayton Plumbing and Heating until 2006 when they retired. Twyla was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton where she served as church organist for over 45 years. Twyla also taught Sunday school, release time and summer bible school and was active in the W.E.L.C.A. Twyla passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at her home in Slayton at the age of 71 after a courageous six-year battle with cancer. She and Darrell enjoyed many trips to places like Norway, Germany, Alaska and Florida. Twyla enjoyed music, watching the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings, coffee with friends, feeding and watching the birds and squirrels, and her two golden retrievers. Twyla will be remembered for her giving heart and loyalty to family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Darrell Hungerford of Slayton, MN two sons, Dr. Todd Hungerford of Chicago, IL and Dr. Chad Hungerford and Rebecca Junck of Brookings, SD, four sisters and their spouses, Marilyn and David Erickson of Hayfield, MN, Maydelle and Gene Kronback of Westbrook, MN, Clarice and Tom Kappes of Slayton, MN, Kristin and John Hansen of Currie, MN, family friend, Jim Nawrocki of Chicago, IL and several nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, and nephew, Kyle Erickson.

Mary Klosterman
Mary Klosterman, the daughter of Bernard and Elizabeth Einck Odenbrett, was born on March 17, 1948 in Fulda, MN. Mary was united in marriage to Daniel Klosterman on Junee 22, 1968 in St. Garbriel’s Church in Fulda, MN. After their marriage they lived in Worthington, MN where she worked as a teller for Worthington Federal Savings Bank. After their retirement they moved to Rockvale, TN to be near their family. Mary passed away at the Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro, TN on Friday, March 29, 2013 at the age of 65. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Murfreesboro, TN. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Daniel Klosterman of Rockvale, TN; 2 sons, Brad Klosterman of Smyrna, TN and Mark (Stacie) Klosterman of Breese, IL; daughter, Tina (Jody) Brassfield of Madison, WI; 4 grandchildren, Kyle Townswick, Sydney Klosterman, Tayler Klosterman and Brooke Klosterman; 2 brothers, Thomas (Colleen) Odenbrett of Vermillion, SD and Maurice (Caroline) Odenbrett of Fulda, MN; 4 nieces and 5 nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother David (Elfrieda) Odenbrett and 2 nephews, Timothy and Christopher Odenbrett.
