WASHINGTON — When the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recently recommended eliminating wrestling from the games starting in 2020, it struck me — and I’m sure a great many other Minnesotans — as not only a blow to Olympic tradition, but also as just plain wrong.
ST. PAUL — Hollywood could not have written a better ending for Worthington’s Anthony Luft.
Luft won the MSHSL Class AA Individual Wrestling State Tournament’s 120-pound championship with an improbable 7-5 victory in triple overtime against Foley’s Tyler Funk on Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center.
ST. PAUL — The day did not go as planned for the Adrian Area Dragons (29-5), who saw their season end Thursday with a pair of Class AA state tournament losses.
New Prague handed Adrian Area a 32-19 quarterfinals setback before Perham eliminated the Dragons 33-25 in the consolation semifinals. It was the only time this season Adrian Area dropped consecutive duals.
Jackson County Central to face Frazee in state finals
ST. PAUL – With a pair of convincing wins, the Jackson County Central Huskies advanced to the finals of the Class A state wrestling tournament Thursday, while Adrian was defeated twice in Class AA, ending their tournament.
ST. PAUL — It’s no surprise that Jackson County Central and Adrian Area are back in the MSHSL Team Wrestling State Tournament.
The Huskies (21-2) are the top-ranked team in Class A after winning state championships in 2008, 2010, 2011 (in a 28-28 tie with Frazee) and 2012. In 2007, Jackson County Central won the state consolation title while competing in Class AA.
