ADRIAN — The Adrian Dragons defeated Edgerton/Southwest Christian 9-8 in the first game of a baseball doubleheader Thursday, clinching a piece of the Red Rock Conference championship with Edgerton/Southwest Christian, which earned its share of the title with a 7-4 win in Game 2.
SLAYTON — Paced by 38 individual points from sprinter Jack Thony, the host Murray County Rebels edged rival Fulda by eight points Thursday to claim the Red Rock Conference boys’ track and field team championship.
JACKSON — Joe Brinkman and Kyle Christopher each carded 42s to lead the Jackson County Central boys golf team to a 172-203 victory over Pipestone Area Thursday, and Lexie Hoffman and Alison Benson each totaled 46 strokes to pace the JCC girls squad.
SLAYTON — Murray County Central senior Sam Erickson fired a complete-game gem Tuesday, shutting out Edgerton/Southwestern Christian 3-0 and giving the Flying Dutchmen their first loss of the season in Red Rock Conference baseball action.
JACKSON —Moira Carlson threw a no-hitter and Marita Rasche homered in the second game to help Jackson County Central complete a sweep of Luverne in a Southwest Conference softball doubleheader Tuesday. The Huskies won on scores of 7-2 and 11-0.
JACKSON — Matthew Sterrett and Mark Spreiter stroked 39s — three strokes better than their nearest rivals —and the Luverne boys golf team defeated host Jackson County Central 164-175 Tuesday.
JCC won the girls contest 189-215.
Area girls basketball coaches Randy Strand and Gregg Slaathaug have been driving each other crazy for 12 years. Fans have benefited. Their antics during games are, in some cases, as entertaining as the action on the floor.
