SLAYTON — Once again putting six runners among the top-13 finishers, the still-improving Worthington High School boys’ cross country squad won its third straight meet of the season Tuesday, claiming the team title at the Rebel Invitational at Slayton’s Golf Course.
BREWSTER — Kurt Schmitz bolted across the goal line from six yards out on Southwestern United’s second offensive play of the second overtime Friday night, putting the Wildcats up 12-6 in a Southern Confederacy Conference 9-man high school football game against the combination of Granada-Huntley-East Chain and Truman.
PIPESTONE – Alex Ossefoort scored three touchdowns and the Arrows’ defense stood strong as Pipestone Area shut out the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Knights in a non-conference Zero Week football game.
Ossefoort opened the game’s scoring with an 18-yard run in the first quarter.
WORTHINGTON — With several highly-successful individual performances by area golfers at the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Class A and Class AA state meets, which wrapped up June 13, another year of high school athletics is in the books — a recent “blast from the past.”
ST. PAUL — With one attempt remaining Friday in the finals of the Class A girls’ discus competition at Klas Field on the campus of Hamline University, Fulda senior Sylvia Zanini uncorked the best throw of her amazing track and field career and claimed a Minnesota State Championship gold medal.
WORTHINGTON — The Southwest Conference champion Worthington Trojans were represented well on the All-SWC baseball team, as Lucas Henning, Blake Rogers, Jon Reller and Tommy Hayenga each made the all-conference squad for the Trojans.
ST. PAUL — Fulda’s Sylvia Zanini and Windom’s Hannah Steele are each among the top qualifiers in both the girls’ discus and shot put events at the Class A Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) track and field state meet, which begins this afternoon at Klaus Field on the campus of Hamline University in St. Paul.
MARSHALL — Kelsy Kannegiesser and Brittany Hoffmann each belted a pair of home runs in a classic 10-inning thriller Thursday night, leading the New Ulm Eagles to a dramatic 10-9 victory over the Pipestone Area Arrows in the second game of the Section 3AA high school fastpitch softball tournament championship round.
PIPESTONE — On a nearly perfect day for high school track and field competition, athletes from across Section 3A sought to perform their best Thursday at Paulsen Field in hopes of qualifying for next week’s Minnesota State Meet at Hamline University, June 8-9.
