School district takes initial steps to close high school ROUND LAKE — After years of declining enrollment and subsequent financial difficulties, the Round Lake-Brewster School District has begun the consolidation process and is in the preliminary planning stages of closing the Round Lake high school and establishing secondary tuition agreements with neighboring school districts.
ADRIAN — In a closely-played, highly-competitive Red Rock Conference high school volleyball match that featured a little bit of everything Tuesday night, the Adrian Dragons claimed a three-game sweep over the Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots by winning each set remarkably by two points apiece.
BREWSTER — Kurt Schmitz bolted across the goal line from six yards out on Southwestern United’s second offensive play of the second overtime Friday night, putting the Wildcats up 12-6 in a Southern Confederacy Conference 9-man high school football game against the combination of Granada-Huntley-East Chain and Truman.
JEFFERS — Chloe Arfsten and Klarissa Larsen combined for 24 kills to lead Red Rock Central to a sweep over Hills-Beaver Creek in Monday night’s Section 3A volleyball playoffs.
Game scores were 25-15, 25-15 and 25-9.
BREWSTER — Intercepting four passes in the fourth quarter Wednesday night — including one pick for a 65-yard touchdown — Cedar Mountain/Comfrey turned what had been a very closely-contested, evenly-played high school football game into a 22-0 Southern Minnesota Conference victory over the hosting Southwestern United Wildcats.
SLAYTON — Ashley Woldt had a match-high nine kills, leading Murray County Central to a sweep of Round Lake-Brewster in a Red Rock Conference match on Monday night.
With the win, the Rebels finished 13-7 overall and 9-2 in the conference to earn a tie for second place. Westbrok-Walnut Grove and Southwest Star Concept also finished 9-2 this season.
OKABENA — Kristi Bose and Makenzie Giese combined for 30 kills Tuesday evening, as Murray County Central earned a hard-fought 3-2 Red Rock Conference volleyball victory over Southwest Star Concept.
The Quasars won both the first and third games by four points, but the Rebels (11-7, 7-2) convincingly took Games 2 and 4, setting up a decisive Game 5.
LAMBERTON — Daniel Maras rushed for 202 yards and Dylan Bunting completed 12 of 21 passes for 195 yards — including a trio of touchdown passes to Jeff Decock — Friday night, as Red Rock Central rolled to a 43-6 Southern Minnesota Conference victory over Southwestern United.
WESTBROOK — Westbrook-Walnut Grove was on the verge of earning a sweep against Southwest Star Concept in Thursday’s volleyball match, but the Red Rock Conference leading Quasars weren’t about to go down that easily.
JEFFERS — Tuesday’s volleyball clash between Southwest Star Concept and Red Rock Central came down to the wire, but the Quasars prevailed by a 22-25, 25-18, 25-20, 21-25, 15-13 score to remain atop the Red Rock Conference in a contest that also featured a pink-out for RRC’s Coaches vs. Cancer night.
WABASSO — Aided by a pair of long pass completions from Justin Jass to Jameson Collin, the Southwestern United Wildcats put together a sustained, seven-play, 67-yard drive in the first quarter at Wabasso Saturday afternoon in a Southern Minnesota Conference high school football game.
