SLAYTON — Once again putting six runners among the top-13 finishers, the still-improving Worthington High School boys’ cross country squad won its third straight meet of the season Tuesday, claiming the team title at the Rebel Invitational at Slayton’s Golf Course.
OKOBOJI, Iowa — The Sibley-Ocheyedan Generals opened the game’s scoring with safety in the second quarter and that same defense ended up pitching a shutout in an 8-0 non-district win over the Okoboji Pioneers Friday night.
TRACY — With pretty much seven starters returning on both offense and defense, the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panthers are optimistic about an improved season in the always-challenging Little Sioux Conference.
WESTBROOK — The Westbrook-Walnut Grove Chargers beat Tracy-Milroy-Balaton in five games for their first victory of the season Friday night.
The Chargers took the first game 25-22 over T-M-B on the back of Paige Erickson’s 15 kills on the night.
SLAYTON — Matt Vogel twirled a no-hitter against fifth-seeded Tracy-Milroy-Balaton and then came on in relief to get the final two outs against top-seeded Murray County Central Saturday afternoon, helping the fourth-seeded Springfield Tigers win a pair of games and advance to the double-elimination portion of the Section 3A high school baseball tournament.
NEW ULM — Guts.
It takes guts, or as some call it, intestinal fortitude, to execute the play the sixth-seeded Pipestone Area Arrows’ baseball team used to score the eventual game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning, ending the No. 3-seed Worthington Trojans’ season in a 2-1 decision in the Section 3AA playoff game at Johnson Park Saturday afternoon.
EDGERTON — After staving off a potential upset bid by the seventh-seeded Adrian Area Dragons in the first playoff game of Tuesday’s Section 3A South fast-pitch softball action, the host and No. 2 seed Edgerton/Southwest Christian Flying Dutchmen soared into the double elimination portion of the tournament with a 5-1 victory over the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panthers in the day’s final game.
JACKSON — Jackson County Central needed a sweep of a doubleheader with Marshall Thursday to lock up the Southwest Conference in baseball action. The Huskies were three outs away, but dropped Game 2 in the final inning 7-6, after winning Game 1 in the final inning 8-7.
TRACY — Jordan Lanoue got the win on the mound, striking out three and giving up one hit in 2 1/3 innings of work, while Brady Peterson was 2-for-4 and Taylor Hoffbeck had an RBI double to lead Tracy-Milroy-Balaton’s baseball team over Adrian Saturday.
LUVERNE — Ellen Dahl was 2-for-2 with two runs, Erica DeBoer was 3-for-3 with a run, a double and four RBIs, Ashley Otten was 1-for-3 with a run and a double and Kristen Reisdorfer was 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead Luverne over Adrian Area 7-1 in softball action Monday.
