WORTHINGTON — With both its 4x200 and 4x400 meter relay teams coming off impressive winning performances at the Section 3A track and field meet (Redwood Falls, May 29), the Worthington boys are hoping to make the award’s stand Saturday at the Minnesota State High School (MSHSL) meet.
The elite event will be held in St. Paul at Hamline University, beginning at 3:00 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.
FULDA — Prior to last week’s Section 3A track and field meet at Redwood Falls, Fulda eighth-grader Tiffany Gehl was enjoying a fine spring as a Raider distance runner.
After finishing second in the 1,600 meter run at the Sub-Section 10 meet at Slayton May 22 with a time of 5:37.82, Gehl was the ninth best seed among the 16 qualifying competitors in the four-lap race — also known as the mile — entering the section finals.
REDWOOD FALLS — Racking up 54 points in the three dashes, and tacking on 36.5 points elsewhere, Southwest Christians edged Montevideo, 90.5 to 88, to win the Section 3A boys’ track and field team championship Thursday.
Eagle sprinters Nicholas Pfeifle and Jordan Spronk will get to race against each again next week, as both qualified for the state meet, which will be run June 6-7 at Hamline University in St. Paul.
REDWOOD FALLS — On a wet and windy afternoon and evening, the best girl track and field athletes in Section 3A battled their opponents — and the nasty weather conditions — in the coveted quest for a berth in next week’s elite state meet, sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL).
The top two finishers in each of the 14 individual events, plus each of the winning relay teams qualified for the state event, which will be held at Hamline University in St. Paul June 6-7.
