Worthington Legion loses first playoff game

SLEEPY EYE — For six innings, the Worthington Legion baseball team kept the Sleepy Eye offense under wraps. However, Sleepy Eye Post 7 scored three runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth to turn a 2-1 lead into a 7-1 victory in the first round of playoffs Saturday.

WORTHINGTON — As the two teams to advance out of Sub-district A, Pipestone and Luverne are getting prepared for this weekend’s 2nd District Division 2 American Legion baseball tournament held in Springfield. Pipestone (14-3-1) won Subdistrict A and plays the host team Springfield today at 3:30 p.m., while Luverne (11-5, Sub-District A runner-up) takes on Blue Earth at 1 p.m.

Kruger, Kontz hit home runs to lead Post 32

SLAYTON — Adrian American Legion baseball coach Greg Kruger said it was the worst thing that could have happened to Slayton: Jordon Kontz got angry. Full of anger and adrenaline after a call that he thought was incorrect, Kontz unleashed a series of furious fastballs to record a strikeout and escape a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the sixth inning Friday to lead Adrian to a 7-4 victory over Slayton.
