Rebels eliminate Wildcats with 2-0 victory

LUVERNE — Murray County Central’s Eric Wieneke and Justin Reinsma combined to allow just four hits Tuesday night, and teammate Jake Sweetman drove in a pair of runs to spark the fourth-seeded Rebels to a 2-0 victory over seventh-seeded Southwestern United in a Section 3A baseball tournament elimination game at Redbird Field.

Panthers knock off Tigers, 6-4, in Section 3A tangle

LUVERNE — David Schmidt struck out seven batters and allowed just five hits and three walks in a complete-game effort to help the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panthers defeat Springfield, 6-4 Tuesday evening in Section 3A baseball playoff action.

Falcons advance, Huskies and Dragons bow out of softball playoffs

MONTEVIDEO — Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove won three softball games Tuesday, staying alive in the Section 3A double-elimination tournament. With the three wins, the Falcons (16-5) have advanced to the section finals where they will tangle with Wabasso Thursday at 5 p.m. in Marshall. RRC/W-WG will need to defeat the Rabbits twice to earn a trip to the state tournament.

Arrows sharp to begin Section 3AA playoffs

PIPESTONE — With a strong, gusty wind making every fly ball an adventure, the Pipestone Area Arrows (16-6) kept the errors to a minimum Saturday afternoon to claim a pair of victories in the first round of the Section 3AA baseball playoffs and remain in the winner’s bracket of the tournament.

Cardinals, Trojans each claim one playoff victory

PIPESTONE — With teams needing only one victory to advance to the second day of the Section 3AA baseball playoffs, Luverne’s Zach Olson made sure the Cardinals (13-7) were going to live to see another day. Olson picked up the victory on the hill and also drove in the game-tying run as Luverne edged Worthington 3-2 in the opening round Saturday.

Dragons knock off Tigers and Rebels in Section 3A baseball playoffs

ADRIAN — With two outs and the bases-loaded Saturday in bottom of the sixth inning, Adrian designated hitter Ben Suedkamp scorched a 1-0 fastball up the middle, plating Dragon teammates Glen Kruger and Brett Nowotny, capping a five-run, six-hit rally, as Adrian defeated Springfield, 9-8, in a first round double elimination game of the Section 3A — south bracket — high school baseball tournament.

Rebels split Section 3A baseball contests

ADRIAN — Trailing 5-2 after four-and-a-half innings Saturday, Murray County Central plated 10 runs in the bottom of the fifth and claimed a 12-5 victory over Windom in an opening round game of the Section 3A high school baseball tournament.

Wildcats, Panthers remain alive in Section 3A playoffs

Daily Globe MILROY — With 12 runs in the third inning, the Wabasso Rabbits defeated Southwestern United 19-1 in five innings in a Section 3A baseball game Saturday. Kirk McBreen suffered the loss for SWU, allowing 13 runs while striking out three. Christopher Eichten allowed no earned runs in three innings while striking out seven to earn the victory. McBreen had a hit and scored a run for the Wildcats, while Tyler Timko and James Anderson each had a hit. Garet Rogers led the Wildcats with two hits in the game. Wabasso had five doubles and a home run, as Eichten had a pair of hits and drove in five runs. David Schmidt earned the victory for T-M-B, allowing no earned runs on one hit while walking one and striking out three. Barrett Herrig suffered the loss, allowing eight earned runs while walking six and striking out four in three and two thirds innings. Brandon Fast had the lone hit for ML/B-O, while Jared Bargen’s ground out scored Kyle Schroeder for the only Wolverine run. Taylor Hagberg had a pair of singles, while Anthony Dolan had a two-RBI single in the third. Isaac Dolan had a hit and walked twice, and scored three runs for the Panthers. Kyle Schroeder suffered the loss, allowing one earned runs on six hits while walking four and striking out six for Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin. McBreen had a pair of hits and scored a run, while Anderson helped his own cause with two hits and a run scored. Obermolloer scored the game-winning run and had an RBI, while Stenzel drove in two runs in the game. William Cranston also added a hit for SWU (7-13). Ryan Nessler led ML/B-O with three hits, including a double, and also scored a run and drove in a run. Brandon Fast had a pair of hits and scored a run. Eagles narrowly advance to state

MARSHALL — On a windy day when balls were flying in all directions, it all came down to a single stroke. In the end, it was the Windom Eagles who managed to keep their composure to card a winning score of 319 — edging Springfield/Comfrey and Westbrook-Walnut Grove (320 each) by a stroke Friday at the Section 3A golf meet at the Marshall Country Club to secure a state tournament berth.

RRC edged by Lakeview, Minneota

MARSHALL — At the turn, the Red Rock Central Falcons were in the lead over Lakeview and Minneota, and with nine holes to play, it was any team’s tournament. “We had the lead at the turn and thought we had a good chance to in it,” RRC head coach Steve Wegman said. “But the lowest scores from Lakeview and Minneota were too much to overcome.”

HERON LAKE — With solid pitching from James Anderson and a stout defensive effort, the Southwestern United Wildcats defeated the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen, 4-3, Wednesday afternoon in the Section 3A play-in baseball contest.
