ST. PAUL — Gov. Tim Pawlenty delivered equal amounts of patriotism and conservatism Thursday in his final State of the State speech.
The Republican governor and potential 2012 Republican presidential candidate began his 33-minute speech praising the Minnesota National Guard, and spent much of his time in the packed House chamber promoting tax cuts and other proposals that he said would help business hire more workers.
Adrian High School’s Chris Reisdorfer and Windom Area High School’s Brady Ysker-Giefer each won first place at the state speech tournament at St. Peter (see today’s story on page A1), an exciting end to a season that is a significant part of many lives throughout our region.
FULDA — The Adrian High School speech team earned the Sub-section 10, 3A speech team title Monday in Fulda. The 17-member team tied in point totals with Worthington, but won by having more first place individual winners.

WORTHINGTON — Students from 19 schools wandered the halls of Worthington High School Saturday, speaking quietly to each other, the walls or nothing in particular, practicing for the first speech tournament hosted in Worthington in 10 years.
WORTHINGTON — After a season facing some of the toughest competition in the state, 10 students from the Worthington High School Trojan Speech Team will compete at the state level contest Friday in the Twin Cities.
