WORTHINGTON — When August rolls around, some very undesirable odors start to show on and around our area lakes. This smell can drive you far away from the water if it is intense enough.
The smell I am referring to is the smell of dead and decaying algae that starts to accumulate on the down-wind shorelines as August continues to progress.
WORTHINGTON — Summer continues to race by, with the first of August just around the corner.
Summer was kind of disappointing this year because of the fact that we didn’t really have any in June. All it did was rain for the last part of May and much of June. Summer, by most descriptions is June, July and August. And with most of June absentee balloting, this summer seems even shorter than usual.
WORTHINGTON — A few years back I was out shooting sporting clay at the Horse Barn and Hunt Club in Lakefield, and as I was walking around the course I saw a most interesting bird.
I asked the owner operator, Brent Rossow, just what kind of bird it was and he informed me that the bird was a Bobolink. I had never seen one and was fascinated by this little bird king of the grasslands.
