REPRINT Zombies welcome in Luverne gallery
LUVERNE — From zombies feeding beady little eyes to chickens to paintings, prints, sculptures and jewelry, the HGS (Hallstrom Glass Studio) Gallery in Luverne is featuring the works of seven regional artists during the month of May. The show kicks off with an opening reception from 6:30 to 9 p.m. tonight. The public is invited for free food and drink and social time with the artists.

Honoring the fallen
Art students from the Area Learning Center stand Tuesday — the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2011, terrorist attacks — with the abstract piece “Black Tuesday,” which approximately 50 ALC students created during the 2011-2012 school year to commemorate the attacks. The work, which was recognized with a Merit Award at April’s Area Art Show at the Nobles County Art Center, currently hangs at the ALC.

Heart for art: Tricia Mikle named SMAHC's Prairie Disciple
Tricia Mikle retired a few years ago after a 27-year stint in the art department at Worthington High School, but she certainly isn’t done teaching or sharing her passion for art.
For instance, on a recent morning she was creating autonomous art with Ellen Baker-Merrigan and her two sons, Stewart, 12, and Sullivan, 10, at the Baker-Merrigan home. A former colleague at WHS, Ellen teaches biology but also enjoys exploring her artistic side.
