Minnesota GOP ponders Capitol role
ST. PAUL (AP) — Booted from statehouse power, Minnesota Republicans must figure out whether their new role at the Capitol will be as the noisy opposition trying to impede the all-Democratic government, an accommodating minority content to scratch out small victories or something in between.
Other projects appear to be more controversial
ST. PAUL — Fixing the Minnesota Capitol building’s crumbling outside walls and aging interior won easy approval from a key House committee Tuesday, but funding other public works projects around the state may prove more controversial.
ST. PAUL — Minnesota veterans took aim at legislators and media accounts critical of the governor’s office using veterans’ funds to pay a staff member, and during a Thursday committee hearing senators apologized to veterans.
ST. PAUL — The problem is to find money to create jobs while the economy remains troubled. The solution remains very much a work in progress two months before Minnesota legislators convene in their 2010 session.
ST. PAUL — Minnesotans may think their media report on Tim Pawlenty’s potential presidential run only because he is their home-state governor, but the Republican is getting plenty of attention nationwide.
