As a parent of two Jackson County Central cross-country team runners, I would like to thank the Daily Globe sports department, and Les Knutson in particular, for their excellent coverage this past fall season.
NORTHFIELD — Running in her fourth state high school cross country meet, Murray County Central senior Laura Christensen capped her fabulous career with a medalist performance Saturday, as she ran to a sixth-place individual performance at the Class A meet at St. Olaf College.
ADRIAN — As expected, the state’s top-ranked Class A girls’ cross country squad — the Adrian Dragons — won their fourth consecutive Section 3A team championship Friday, posting an 11-point victory over a very good squad from Canby/Minneota/Lincoln HI.
ADRIAN — In a competitive race up front, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton senior Ryan Tholen repeated his Section 3A boys’ individual title Friday, while the stacked Adrian Dragons breezed to a dominating performance — putting four runners among the top seven — to easily claim the team championship.
MONTGOMERY — After twice finishing second in major meets this fall on the sixth-runner tiebreaker, the Jackson County Central Huskies won the biggest race of 2008 without having to break a tie.
The JCC boys are heading to the state cross country meet as Section 2A champions.
WORTHINGTON — While three-time defending champion Adrian is a solid favorite in both team competitions today, the races for individual honors appear to be quite wide-open, as more than 200 varsity runners — about 100 girls and approximately the same number of boys — converge on the Adrian Country Club for the Section 3A cross country meet.
The 17-team event starts at 4:00 p.m. with the 4,000-meter girls’ race, while the 5,000-meter boys’ meet gets underway 45 minutes later.
MONTGOMERY — Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin’s duo of Sierra Harder and Karina Fast ran tremendous races Thursday, qualifying individually for next week’s state cross country meet (at Northfield, Nov. 1) by finishing third and sixth, respectively, at the Section 2A meet at the Montgomery Golf Club.
JACKSON — While most area teams will be competing in Friday’s Section 3A cross country meet at the Adrian Country Club, three area squads will make the long trip to Montgomery today to participate in the Section 2A meet at the golf course there.
MARSHALL — Displaying the best balance of the seven squads participating in the Southwest Conference cross country meet, the Windom/Southwestern United girls claimed the team championship Tuesday at Independence Park, winning by 17 points with a low score of 58 (6-7-10-16-19).
MARSHALL —When the final scores were tallied at Independence Park Tuesday, both Jackson County Central and Redwood Valley had 42 points and were deadlocked for the Southwest Conference boys’ cross country team championship.
