DETROIT LAKES - From the thistle, clover and dandelions that invade our pristinely green residential lawns, to the curly leaf pondweed, Eurasian milfoil and zebra mussels that clog up area lakes and rivers, invasive species are a recurring nuisance in many ways.
ALEXANDRIA - Buckthorn, a small, shrubby tree, is a nonnative species that has become a big problem in Minnesota’s woodlands and wetlands. In 1999, buckthorn was identified as a restricted noxious weed. This means that its sale, transportation or movement is prohibited statewide by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture.
