WILMONT — Flags snapped in the breeze, childish laughter rang out and the murmur of voices buzzed across Calvary Cemetery in Wilmont Monday morning as a crowd of people wandered the burial ground visiting gravesites and acknowledging the headstones marked with flags and the words that identified the deceased as a veteran.
WORTHINGTON — The Honor Guard from American Legion Post 5 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3958 will conduct services Monday morning at several local venues: 8:30 a.m., Garden of Memories; 9 a.m., St. Mary’s Cemetery; 9:30 a.m. Worthington Cemetery; and 10 a.m., Freedom Veterans Memorial Park. Pastor John Stewart will officiate at the services.

WORTHINGTON — All tuned up and ready to play —that’s the Worthington Area Symphony Orchestra (WASO), with its 50-some string, wind and percussion musicians set to entertain in a patriotic-themed concert Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the historic Memorial Auditorium.
ROUND LAKE — “I heard about the definition of a veteran the other day,” Round Lake American Legion Post 461 Commander Bruce Hasara told the crowd gathered Monday morning for the town’s Memorial Day service.
WORTHINGTON — A Memorial Day program will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Chautauqua Park. Wreaths will be cast into Lake Okabena from the air by the Civil Air Patrol and by boat by Rob Melton. The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Color Guard and Firing Squad will salute the dead and sound taps.
WORTHINGTON — With a cool breeze blowing on their backs, several residents of South Shore Care Center wheeled up to a pair of new, handicap-accessible picnic tables inside the gazebo at Freedom Veterans’ Memorial Park in Worthington Monday.
