STAFF BLOG BEYOND THE PAGE It's gameday!
It seemed like only yesterday. In fact, it was a few months ago when the basketball season began.
I remember the first Minnesota West games were in the first of November, with the high school season ... Posted on 3/21/12 at 12:05 PM
TRACY — Jordan Lanoue got the win on the mound, striking out three and giving up one hit in 2 1/3 innings of work, while Brady Peterson was 2-for-4 and Taylor Hoffbeck had an RBI double to lead Tracy-Milroy-Balaton’s baseball team over Adrian Saturday.
ODIN — With players ranging in age from 19 to 57, a Southwestern Minnesota fast-pitch softball team based out of Odin capped another successful summer by winning three games in the National Class AA 16-team double elimination tournament last week at Harmoman Park in Sioux Falls, S.D.
BREWSTER — Southwestern United scored a pair of second-half touchdowns on long runs and defeated Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin, 17-8, Friday night in a Southern Minnesota Conference East Division high school football game.
EDGERTON — In a contest between two teams that were undefeated in Red Rock Conference volleyball action, it was the Southwest Christian Eagles who defeated the Southwest Star Concept Quasars in four games Thursday night.
SWC (10-3, 6-0) jumped out early in Game 1 and went on to a 25-18 victory, and then won a back-and-forth Game 2, 25-21.
LOON LAKE — Jackson County Central took three of the top four places, four of the first nine and five of the top 18 Thursday, as the Huskies dominated the team segment (by 42 points) of their own meet — the KKOJ/KRAQ/Subway Invitational at the Loon Lake Golf Course with 36 points.
While the Huskies were impressively winning their second consecutive meet title (JCC had won last week’s Worthington Turkey Trot), the race for individual honors narrowed from a three-person battle to a duel between JCC’s Matt Kocak and Worthington’s O.J. Ojullu for much of the 5,000-meter distance.
LOON LAKE — Getting a well-balanced performance from all five scoring runners — especially from its lead duo of Meredith Hentges and Emily Turner — the Windom/Southwestern United girls’ cross country team finished a solid second in the KKOJ/KRAQ/Subway Invitational Thursday, hosted by Jackson County Central at the Loon Lake Golf Course.
WESTBROOK — The one-two rushing punch of Josh Merrick and Mason Comnick proved too much for Granada-Huntley-East Chain-Martin Luther Friday night, and host Westbrook-Walnut Grove shut down a high-powered Mustang offense in a 27-7 victory.
WORTHINGTON — Putting all five of its scoring runners among the top 15 overall finishers, the Jackson County Central Huskies dominated the team segment of the Turkey Trot cross country meet Thursday afternoon at Prairie View Golf Links.
WORTHINGTON — As expected, Murray County Central senior Laura Christensen defended her individual championship Thursday afternoon at Prairie View Golf Links, gradually pulling away from the front pack of four and claiming her second consecutive Turkey Trot cross country first-place trophy.
BREWSTER — In a wild, exciting game that featured seven pass interceptions, two long touchdown runs and a 42-yard field goal, the Wildcats of Southwestern United earned a 29-13 victory over Sleepy Eye Public Friday night.
