WINDOM — Stepping up its defensive intensity and scoring several baskets after leaping for offensive rebounds, the Pipestone Area Arrows doubled up the scoring on Jackson County Central in the second half Friday evening and claimed the Section 3AA South girls’ basketball championship with a 60-50 victory over the hard-working Huskies.
LUVERNE — Senior Mike Vorwald scored a game-high 21 points and handed out nine assists Tuesday night, leading the Worthington Trojans to an 87-51 victory over the Luverne Cardinals in a Southwest Conference boys’ basketball game.
WORTHINGTON — Pipestone Area’s Bryce Beyers nailed a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 2:29 remaining in the second half Friday night, giving the Arrows a 61-59 lead that they stretched into a stunning 70-63 victory over the Worthington Trojans in a Southwest Conference boys’ basketball game.
FAIRMONT — Travis Meinders hit a 3-pointer with just more than six minutes remaining Tuesday to give Worthington’s boys’ basketball team its first lead of the night, but Fairmont went on a 15-3 run to end the game and hand the Trojans a 66-55 non-conference loss.
PIPESTONE — In a game that was much closer than the final score indicates, the improving Windom High School girls’ basketball team gave the powerful Pipestone Area Arrows a strong battle Thursday night.
But late runs in each half helped the Arrows (13-2, 7-2) claim a 58-35 Southwest Conference victory.
MARSHALL — Pipestone Area’s Amber Haupert had a first-place and a runner-up finish to go along with a trio of third-place finishes to lead the Arrows to a narrow gymnastics victory against Marshall Thursday night.
EDGERTON — Sparked by Alyson Drooger’s second career triple-double Tuesday night, the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen claimed a 62-42 victory over the Ellsworth Panthers in a Red Rock Conference girls’ basketball contest.
