WORTHINGTON — Janet Smid is a four-year cancer survivor. She’s also an avid quilter since retiring from full-time work more than a decade ago.
This spring, Smid made a quilted wall hanging using the phrases from the “What Cancer Cannot Do” verse and pieced together a keepsake she intended to hang on the wall of her Worthington home.

WORTHINGTON — The 16th annual Nobles County Relay for Life is just a day away, and this year’s 21 fundraising teams and more than 180 team members are turning in cash, checks and coins in hopes of reaching a $100,000 goal this year to help in the fight against cancer.

WORTHINGTON — Heidi Heckenlaible has never attended a Relay for Life event, but this year she will not only be there surrounded by her family and friends, she will be the guest of honor.
Event is short of goal; money continues to pour in
WORTHINGTON — More than 100 cancer survivors gathered around the stage at the Nobles County Relay for Life Friday night to release Monarch butterflies symbolizing life and hope for a care-free world without cancer.
WORTHINGTON — In hopes of drawing more people and offering a walking path more sheltered than that used in previous years, the Nobles County Relay for Life is shifting from a 12-hour event to a 7-hour event, and relocating the luminary-lined track to the paved and gravel surfaces between the fairground buildings.
Added donations push 2010 ACS event to new record
WORTHINGTON — Though it has been two months since the Nobles County Relay for Life wrapped up its overnight event in Worthington, the money has continued to pour in — so much so that on Friday night, a collection taken at the grandstand during the Nobles County Fair pushed the final fundraising tally over the $100,000 mark.
