ELLSWORTH — When their pagers sound, firefighters need to be ready for anything from a structural blaze to an out-of-control grass fire. However, they also get called to assist in other emergencies, particularly those in which a lot of manpower is needed.

DULUTH - A fire Monday morning sent two men to the hospital and extensively damaged a building at 1923 W. Superior St. But for the actions of Mark Howard, it could have been far worse. Howard entered the building’s smoke-filled second floor and led five people to safety.
