WHS, WMS choral groups to perform on Monday night
WORTHINGTON — There will be power in numbers — and powerful singing — Monday evening at the Worthington High School (WHS) gymnasium when the WHS and Worthington Middle School (WMS) join forces for a fall concert at 7 p.m.
Hard-skinned winter squash is at its best right now. I enjoy browsing through the farmers markets and picking my way through bins at the grocery stores, admiring the unique shapes and various colors. The hard, thick-skinned squash is a nice change from the summer squash I’ve enjoyed the last couple of months.
This time of year many of us are up to our ears in butter, flour and sugar as we mix and pat and roll and bake. Many holiday bakers will wrap up their homemade cookies, candies and breads to share as gifts.
It’s magical, really. As the family gathers around to observe, your sharp knife skillfully passes through pale yellow skin of a cylindrical fruit that has been cooked to tenderness. Curiosity mounts as you prod the halves apart.
