Aaron Fest pitched six sharp innings, and the 10th-seeded Southwestern United Wildcats made things happen by putting the ball in play Thursday afternoon to claim a 14-5 victory over the seventh-seeded Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panthers in the opening round of the Section 3A South high school baseball tournament.
BREWSTER — In a wild, exciting game that featured seven pass interceptions, two long touchdown runs and a 42-yard field goal, the Wildcats of Southwestern United earned a 29-13 victory over Sleepy Eye Public Friday night.
LUVERNE — Murray County Central’s Eric Wieneke and Justin Reinsma combined to allow just four hits Tuesday night, and teammate Jake Sweetman drove in a pair of runs to spark the fourth-seeded Rebels to a 2-0 victory over seventh-seeded Southwestern United in a Section 3A baseball tournament elimination game at Redbird Field.
MILROY — With 12 runs in the third inning, the Wabasso Rabbits defeated Southwestern United 19-1 in five innings in a Section 3A baseball game Saturday.
Kirk McBreen suffered the loss for SWU, allowing 13 runs while striking out three.
Christopher Eichten allowed no earned runs in three innings while striking out seven to earn the victory.
McBreen had a hit and scored a run for the Wildcats, while Tyler Timko and James Anderson each had a hit. Garet Rogers led the Wildcats with two hits in the game.
Wabasso had five doubles and a home run, as Eichten had a pair of hits and drove in five runs.

MILROY — The Panthers scored five runs with two outs in the third inning en route to a Section 3A baseball playoff victory Saturday.
David Schmidt earned the victory for T-M-B, allowing no earned runs on one hit while walking one and striking out three.
Barrett Herrig suffered the loss, allowing eight earned runs while walking six and striking out four in three and two thirds innings.
Brandon Fast had the lone hit for ML/B-O, while Jared Bargen’s ground out scored Kyle Schroeder for the only Wolverine run.
Taylor Hagberg had a pair of singles, while Anthony Dolan had a two-RBI single in the third.
Isaac Dolan had a hit and walked twice, and scored three runs for the Panthers.

MILROY — Derek Stenzel’s two-out single plated Tyler Obermoller in the bottom of the seventh as SWU advanced with a narrow victory Saturday.
Anderson earned the victory on the hill, allowing one earned run on eight hits while walking one and striking out five.
Kyle Schroeder suffered the loss, allowing one earned runs on six hits while walking four and striking out six for Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin.
McBreen had a pair of hits and scored a run, while Anderson helped his own cause with two hits and a run scored.
Obermolloer scored the game-winning run and had an RBI, while Stenzel drove in two runs in the game. William Cranston also added a hit for SWU (7-13).
Ryan Nessler led ML/B-O with three hits, including a double, and also scored a run and drove in a run. Brandon Fast had a pair of hits and scored a run.
SWU will face Murray County Central today in Luverne with first pitch slated for 7 p.m.

WINDOM — Advancing at least 10 girls and 15 boys, the Worthington Trojans enjoyed a banner all-around day at Thursday’s Sub-Section 9 high school track & field meet, sweeping both team championships in the process.
HERON LAKE — With solid pitching from James Anderson and a stout defensive effort, the Southwestern United Wildcats defeated the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen, 4-3, Wednesday afternoon in the Section 3A play-in baseball contest.
WINDOM — The Windom Eagles scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to break the game open and defeat the visiting Southwestern United Wildcats, 11-6, Tuesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action.
EDGERTON — Brandon Schroeder pounded two home runs, including a first-inning grand slam, to pace the visiting Worthington Trojans to a five-inning 14-1 non-conference baseball victory over the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen Friday afternoon.
HERON LAKE — Pounding out 13 hits, including four extra-base blasts, the Adrian Dragons clinched the Red Rock Conference baseball championship with a 7-1 victory over Southwestern United Tuesday.
The championship is Adrian’s eighth conference title in the past 14 seasons.
ELLSWORTH — Freshman all-around athlete Karli Meyer was sensational in the circle Tuesday, leading her Adrian Area girls’ fast-pitch softball team to a five-inning, 10-0, victory over Southwestern United.
LUVERNE — Pounding out 18 hits and receiving a two-hit shutout from Zach Olson Monday, the Luverne Cardinals picked up a 10-0, five-inning victory over the Windom Eagles in a Southwest Conference baseball contest.
FAIRMONT — Trojan starter Justin Lewis (pictured right) gave up no runs on no hits while striking out five and walking three over four inning to earn the victory on the hill, as Worthington defeated then host Fairmont Cardinals, 6-2, Friday evening in a non-conference baseball contest.
