By early August, about 2,800 Iowa Army National Guard soldiers will have returned from duty in Afghanistan. Welcoming ceremonies all over Iowa are conveying appreciation to the Iowa Guard's largest deployment since World War II.
WORTHINGTON — The Alpha Battery 1st Batallion 125th Field Artillery, Luverne-Pipestone unit, is being deployed to Fort McCoy, Wis., on Thursday. It will depart from Luverne and come through Worthington at approximately 10:15 a.m.
Soldiers in Battery A & B to serve in Kuwait
LUVERNE — More than 1,200 people are expected to attend a military parade and send-off for soldiers in the B Battery of the 125th Field Artillery Sunday in Fairmont. The unit consists of soldiers serving in the Fairmont and Jackson National Guard.
WORTHINGTON — On Memorial Day this year, Joe Roos was interviewed via telephone by C-Span “Washington Journal” host Bill Scanlan. The subject matter was “Troop,” a hip hop song and video produced by Joe during his time of service in Iraq with the 34th Red Bull Infantry Division of the Minnesota Army National Guard.
“It’s a song for soldiers, it’s by a soldier, it’s about soldiers, and it’s just about being a troop and the kind of resolve it takes to be a troop in lousy conditions,” explained Joe.
