Letter: Another great year for K-Kids

The Prairie Elementary K-Kids Club enjoyed another successful year of service to the community and its school. Thank you, K-Kids! Thanks also goes to the faculty advisors to K-Kids, Zach Dingmann and Carissa Gabrielson, for a super job; to the parents for encouraging and supporting the K-Kids program; to Prairie Elementary Principal Josh Noble and the entire staff for their support and help; and to the members of the Worthington Early Risers Kiwanis Club, which sponsors K-Kids and help in so many ways.

Here is a listing of the K-Kids activities for 2012-2013:

* Hosted a K-Kids open gym night to kick-off the year.

* Helped the Early Risers Kiwanis Club with Peanut Days, which raised $976.24 for youth activities in the community.

* Helped to sponsor and organize a Veteran's Day breakfast and program to honor all veterans and school tours were given following the program.

* Holiday Party -- decorated cookies and gave to teachers to show appreciation.

* Attended a boys basketball game wearing their K-Kids T-shirts.

* Raised $2,628.26 in the annual Pennies for Patients fund drive. This money goes to help Minnesota children with cancer.

* Collected 264 pounds of food in March for the Food Pantry.

* Collected Campbell Soup labels and box tops for education and milk bottle caps to be redeemed for school equipment.

* Sponsored a Fighting the Winter Blues dress-up week in February.

* Served as Prairie Ambassadors to help new students feel comfortable at Prairie Elementary.

* Had an end-of-year bowling party to celebrate a successful year.

* On May 9, the Early Risers Kiwanis Club sponsored an Achievement and Recognition Breakfast for all K-Kids, their parents and Early Risers members. Rich Ackerman was honored with a Youth Service Award by the Early Risers Kiwanis Club for the many ways he has helped the K-Kids Club for many years.

The 2012-2013 K-Kids officers are Brock Bruns, president; Maranda Thier, vice president; Emma Hansen, secretary; and Madison Schaefer, treasurer.

Prairie Elementary K-Kids are proudly sponsored by the Early Risers Kiwanis Club of Worthington. About 105 students from the third and fourth grades participated in K-Kids activities this year. This concluded the 13th year of the local K-Kids Club.
