Shoebox gift collection under way at ARC

WORTHINGTON —  This week is National Operation Christmas Child collection week.  Locally, the American Reformed Church, 1720 N. Burlington Ave., serves as a collection and regional distribution center for the effort, which collects shoebox gifts for needy children around the world.

Shoebox drop-off times are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today through Saturday; noon to 6 p.m. Sunday; and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday. Boxes should be labeled for a boy or girl and the age group: 2 to 4; 5 to 9; and 10 to 14.

Westminster event features Nativity sets

WORTHINGTON —  A Nativity Experience will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 230 Clary St.

More than 200 Nativity sets will be displayed. Coffee, hot cider and Christmas goodies will be served. An admission fee is charged.

Cookie Walk slated for Saturday in Windom

WINDOM —  The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League’s annual Holiday Cookie Walk will be Saturday at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 1157 Third Ave., Windom.

Cookies and other holiday treats will be available from 8 to 10:30 a.m.

White now senior pastor at Worthington Christian

WORTHINGTON —  On Nov. 3, Doug White was named senior minister at Worthington Christian Church.

White had previously served as the congregation’s associate minister. He is a graduate of Minnesota Bible College (now Crossroads College) in Rochester. He and wife Lorie have been married for 24 years and have four children, ages 10-19. They live on an acreage near Fulda.

Over the past six years, White has serve in various capacities at the church, including as a deacon, elder, worship leader and Sunday school teacher.

Churches collaborate for Thanksgiving Eve

STORDEN —The Storden area churches will have a Community Thanksgiving Eve service at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Storden Baptist Church, 4011 United States Ave.

Amo Lutheran Church of rural Storden and Bethany Lutheran Church of Storden will also participate.

A joint community choir will be part of the service. Rehearsal for all interested singers will begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Refreshments will be served after the service in the church fellowship hall.

Next 507 Youth rally scheduled for Dec. 4

WORTHINGTON — The Worthington Area Youth Ministers Association will host the next quarterly 507 youth rally on Dec. 4 at Worthington Christian Church, 1501 N. Douglas Ave.

The rallies are intended to “united students in the 507 area code and encourage them in their walk of faith.” Students in grades 6-12 are welcome to attend.

Free pizza and pop will be served at 6:30 p.m., with the rally continuing until 8 p.m.

Get tickets for First Lutheran dinner

WORTHINGTON —  The annual Lutfisk and Meatball Dinner will be Dec. 8 at First Lutheran Church, 12th Street and Fourth Avenue.

There will be two separate servings at 2:30 and 5:30 p.m.

The menu will include lefse, green beans, giftas, potatoes, white sauce, rice pudding with lingonberries and Scandinavian cookies. Santa Lucia and the Star Boys Tomtes will make appearances.
