Picnic Saturday at Church of the Brethren

WORTHINGTON — The Worthington Church of the Brethren will have its annual community Fourth of July picnic at noon Saturday.


 The public is invited to attend. Coffee and cold drinks will be provided; attendees are asked to bring a hot and cold dish to share and their own tableware.

Fun and games will follow.

Retirement party for Van Leeuwens Sunday

WORTHINGTON — A retirement party for the Rev. Irwin Van Leeuwen and his wife, Helen, will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the American Reformed Church, 1720 N. Burlington Ave.

Van Leeuwen has served American Reformed Church for 20 years.

Praise band leads worship at First United Methodist

WORTHINGTON — The SpiritWind Praise Band will lead a “Celebrate Freedom” worship service at 6 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 408 11th St.

The praise service will be in the church’s fellowship hall.

Mark calendar for CDA luncheon in Adrian

ADRIAN — Catholic of the Americas Court Santa Maria 247 will serve its annual salad luncheon Wednesday at St. Adrian Catholic Church.

Serving will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Home delivery is available for Adrian residents; phone (507) 483-2317 from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday to order.

Widows Ministry meets before band concert

WORTHINGTON — The nondenominational Widows Ministry will meet at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday in the shelterhouse at Chautauqua Park.

Root beer floats will be served, and the group will gather for fellowship prior to the “Amazing” Worthington City Band concert at 7:30 p.m.

Beginning Experience offers ‘Rebuilding’ series

MARSHALL — Beginning Experience of Southwest Minnesota, a peer ministry support group for widowed, separated and divorced people, will offer its Level II “Rebuilding” series for 10 weeks July 20-Sept. 28.

The Monday night sessions begin at 7 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, Church and A streets in Marshall. Registration starts at 6:30 p.m. the first two Mondays and is then closed for that session.

The group is open to people of all denominations. There is a fee to cover the cost of materials. This series is designed for those who are past the initial pain of losing a partner and are working to put their lives back together.
