Calling all car enthusiasts: Spomer sponsors show

WORTHINGTON -- Car enthusiasts from the tri-state area are expected to converge on Worthington Saturday for the Spomer Classics-sponsored Show and Shine.

Marv Spomer, event organizer, said everyone is welcome to bring their street rod, classic car "or anything" to the event, planned from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Spomer Classics lot, 322 Oxford Street. Parking will be provided for both show participants and spectators.

At 3 p.m., Mayor Alan Oberloh will lead street rodders and classic car drivers on a cruise around Lake Okabena.

In addition to serving as a gathering site for car enthusiasts, Spomer Classic will be open for free tours throughout the day. It will be the first public showing Spomer has offered.

"A lot of the clubs want to bring their people in to show it to them," Spomer said, adding that his car memorabilia showroom is an ongoing project. Among the items he has displayed are a collection of signs, historical information on the automotive industry, a collection of Spomer's own classic cars and gas, oil and soda pop-related items.

There will be food available on site, and the public is welcome to attend.
