Balanced offensive game lifts MHS boys by Worthington

MARSHALL -- Receiving strong scoring balance Tuesday night, the Marshall Tigers topped the Worthington Trojans, 63-59, in Southwest Conference boys' basketball action.

Kyle Mathiowetz led Marshall with 14 points, while Tyler Gimmestad (10), Beau Bredeson (nine), Alex Christianson (nine), Jacob Carrow (nine) and Ben Blomme (eight) all scored well for the Tigers.

Adou Omot led the Trojans with 14 points and six rebounds.

"Adou played his best all-around game tonight," praised Worthington head coach Ron Vorwald. "He really sparked us on both sides of the ball."

Mike Vorwald scored 14 points and passed out four assists, while Joel Olson (eight), Quentin Dudley (seven) and Matt King (seven) aided the Trojans' scoring effort.

"I thought we played with a lot of heart, and did a lot of good things," coach Vorwald said. "We took a step forward with our effort tonight."

Worthington (4-6, 8-10) visits New Ulm Friday.

Windom 69, MCC 58

WINDOM -- Eric VandeHoef scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds to help the Windom Eagles chart a victory over Murray County Central.

Michael Johnson scored 14 points, Brett Dumke tallied 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Jesse Behrens recorded nine points and five assists for the Eagles.

Paul Counter paced MCC with 22 points, while Cole Hegstad and Spencer Grimmius scored 15 and 10 respective points for the Rebels.

Windom (7-12) hosts Luverne Friday, while MCC (7-7) hosts Southwest Christian Thursday.

PIPESTONE -- Greg Quist totaled 19 points and six rebounds to lead Pipestone Area.

Seth Garrett and Doug Mead scored 12 and 11 respective points for the Arrows (8-9), who visit Yellow Medicine East Saturday.

Alex Huisken led Southwest Christian with 19 points, while Trent Ryswyk followed with 16 points.

SWC (12-5) visits MCC Thursday.

JCC 62, St. James 41

JACKSON -- Scott Benson had 15 points and three steals as Jackson County Central defeated St. James.

Brock Bisaillon (seven rebounds, two shot blocks), Pat Garvin (four assists) and Derek Kazemba (seven rebounds) each scored nine points for JCC, while Justin Schmit grabbed seven rebounds.

JCC (8-10) hosts Redwood Valley Friday.
