Counter sharp for MCC, Adrian clinches share of RRC title

HERON LAKE -- Paul Counter hurled a complete-game gem for Murray County Central Tuesday, as he and the Rebels earned a 7-1 victory over Southwestern United in Red Rock Conference baseball action.

Counter fanned 10 and walked three, while allowing four hits and one unearned run in going the distance.

Brady Johansen was 3-for-4 with a two-run double in the fifth for MCC. Kyle DeLong also had a pair of RBIs for the Rebels.

Ben Scheevel pitched the third and fourth innings for SWU. He gave up no hits and struck out three, but three unearned runs came around to score.

Tyler Timko was 1-for-2 for the Wildcats. He plated Kirk McBreen with a bases-loaded walk in the sixth inning.

MCC (4-2, 7-5) visits RRC/W-WG Thursday, while SWU (3-5, 3-8) hosts Edgerton.

Adrian 12, Edgerton 1 (5 innings)

EDGERTON -- Adrian clinched a share of the Red Rock Conference title with a victory over Edgerton.

Adrian (8-0, 13-0) was led by Will Lutmer (2-for-4, three RBIs), Brandon Diekmann (2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs) and Jordan Kontz (2-for-4) at the plate.

Matt Gades pitched four innings to earn the mound victory. He fanned two and walked three.

Alex Elgersma pitched for Edgerton, allowing 10 runs on seven hits and seven walks.

Marty Van Peursem was 2-for-2, while Ethan Blom went 1-for-2 for the Flying Dutchmen (0-7, 0-7).

Adrian visits ML/B-O Thursday, while Edgerton visits SWU.

WESTBROOK -- Jake Wahl was 3-for-4 with four RBIs to help the Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove Falcons defeat Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin.

Clint Lingle was also 3-for-4, driving in three runs. Tim Furth and Mason Comnick each knocked in two runs and had two hits for the Falcons.

Furth pitched a complete game for the Falcons, fanning five and walking five.

Kyle Schroeder took the loss for ML/B-O, going four innings with four strikeouts and five walks.

Nate Haseman was 3-for-4 for the Wolverines, while Evan Anderson was 2-for-2 with a two-run home run in the first inning.

RRC/W-WG (5-3, 8-5) hosts MCC Thursday, while ML/B-O hosts Adrian.

Marshall 8, Luverne 3; Luverne 3, Marshall 2

MARSHALL -- Luverne gained a key Southwest Conference split with Marshall, remaining in the driver's seat in the league standings.

Luverne is now 8-2 in the league and 11-2 overall.

Caleb Bruynes, Adam Ossefoort and Jeremy Hoff shared the pitching chores for Luverne in the opener.

Zach Olson had an RBI triple, Andrew DeBoer had an RBI double, and Jake Clark scored a run with a sacrifice fly. Clark and Tyler Reisch had a single apiece, while Seth Goembel had a double.

DeBoer hurled a complete game in the nightcap, allowing just two hits and two walks. He had a perfect game through four innings and fanned seven batters.

Olson was 2-for-2 with an RBI single, while Reisch had two singles, and Phil Paquette was 1-for-3.

Luverne visits Worthington Thursday.

Windom 3, PA 1 (6 innings)

PIPESTONE -- The Windom Eagles won a rain-shortened game over the Pipestone Area Arrows.

The game was called with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader will be played on a later date.

Kirby Johnson hurled a complete game for the Eagles, fanning four and walking three to earn the victory.

Shea Aamot had an RBI single in the fourth inning for the Eagles.

Sammy Schneider pitched a complete game for the Arrows, striking out eight and walking one.

Nathan Alfson was 2-for-2 for PA (5-2, 8-2), while Greg Quist smacked an RBI triple in the first inning.
