Defendants answer to Dorr civil suit

SIBLEY, Iowa -- According to court documents filed Monday in Iowa Federal Court on behalf of Osceola County, Sheriff Douglas Weber had a rationale basis for denying the issuance of a concealed weapon permit to Ocheyedan, Iowa, resident Paul Dorr and his 18-year-old son.

Dorr filed a lawsuit in late October against the sheriff and any successors, the sheriff's office and the county after being denied a permit to carry a weapon. Dorr claimed, in his lawsuit, that Weber had no reason to deny the permit and acted illegally in doing so.

In the civil complaint, it is claimed Weber stated he had "heard different things from some of the citizens and there's some fear out there of Dorr." The answer filed by the defendants admits the statement is correct, but denied the claim that Weber could not provide Dorr with any specific allegations from citizens that substantiated a sense of fear.
