Brief: Housing program awarded $300K

WORTHINGTON -- The Worthington City Council voted this week to award $300,000 in hospital sale proceeds to Worthington Rediscovered.

It is the first influx of money to the program since 2008, when funding was halted due to Local Government Aid cuts.

The program was established in 2006 to provide financial assistance to anyone wishing to remove sub-standard housing units throughout the community and replace them with new, higher-valued developments.

Properties at 627 13th St., 516 Humiston Ave. and 516 Second Ave. have benefited from the program, said Brad Chapulis, director of community and economic development.
