Deadline nears for flood victim food assistance

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The deadline is Monday for flood victims in presidentially declared disaster areas to apply for emergency food assistance through the Iowa Department of Human Services.

People in Lyon, Osceola and O'Brien counties who have experienced storm-related expenses - such as job disruptions, uninsured losses, cleanup, or replacement of ruined food - may be eligible for disaster food assistance even if they do not qualify for the regular food stamp program.

Applications will be accepted through Monday at any county DHS office that is normally open full time or DHS part-time county offices.
