WORTHINGTON --The Worthington High School "Spirit of Worthington" Trojan marching band will perform Wednesday at the Minnesota State Fair.

Marching in the State Fair's Mall Parade at 2 p.m., the 90-plus member WHS band under the direction of Jon Loy will navigate the 14-block parade route while performing their 2010 parade show to music from "Phantom of the Opera."

The WHS band is the sole representative from southwest Minnesota among the 45 bands slated to appear during the fair's 12-day run.

"Our band students will serve as ambassadors from this corner of the state to the thousands of attendees the Minnesota State Fair hosts daily," said Loy.

Five other bands -- from Fergus Falls, Winona, St. Peter, New Prague and Champlin Park -- will march in the mall parade that day.

This is the WHS band's first public appearance of the 2010 marching season; they will march in Worthington's King Turkey Day parade on Sept. 18 and also perform a half-time show at the WHS homecoming football game on Sept. 17.
