SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The National Weather Service has issued a dense fog advisory in effect until noon today for the southwest Minnesota and northwest Iowa region.

The area of the advisory includes Pipestone, Murray, Cottonwood, Rock, Nobles and Jackson counties in Minnesota and Osceola, Dickinson, Lyon and O'Brien counties in Iowa.

Widespread dense fog will be a factor basically along and east of I-29 into midday. Visibility will be frequently a quarter of a mile or less. In addition, occasional flurries will fall out of the fog.

Drivers should be alert for slick areas on roadways, slow down, use headlights and leave plenty of distance ahead.

A dense fog advisory means visibility will frequently be reduced to less than one quarter mile.
