Nobles Electric awards $5,995

WORTHINGTON -- The Nobles-Murray Rural Electric Trust awarded $5,995 to local organizations on April 26.

These donations occur due to monthly contributions from Nobles Cooperative Electric (NCE) members who agree to have their electric bill rounded up to the nearest dollar.

As a group, NCE members raise approximately $1,000 per month.

The Nobles-Murray Rural Electric Trust received a total of 24 applications. Through this people- helping-people program, 21 organizations received funding, along with eight $500 scholarships.

Since its beginning in 2001, the program has reached a milestone -- more than $150,000 has been awarded through NCE's Operation Round Up program.

The funds were awarded to these organizations: American Red Cross -- SW MN Chapter; Dolly Parton Imagination Library; Friends of the Auditorium Inc.; Fulda Fire Department; Fulda Heritage Society; Girl Scouts; The Historic Dayton House; Hospice of Murray County; Junior Achievement of Murray County; Manna Food Pantry; Murray County DAC/Fulda DAC; Murray County Historical Society; Ridgewood; St. Gabriel's Quilters; Sanford Hospice; SW/WC Service Cooperative; Trinity Preschool; United Way; Wilmont Heritage Center; WonderWorld Preschool; Worthington International Festival.

The trust board's policy outlines project categories eligible for funding.

They include community service, community leadership program, education and youth projects, environmental projects, emergency energy assistance and disaster relief.

The Trust Board has set Sept. 1 as the deadline for the next round of funding.

The board will meet again Oct. 4 to review the applications. Interested organizations may call Nobles at 372-7331, e-mail or visit for an application.
