MN 60 construction is progressing; open house planned

WORTHINGTON -- The Minnesota 60 four-lane expansion project will extend into Worthington Monday, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

An open house for residents and businesses affected by construction is set for 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. June 15, in the Farmers Room of the Nobles County Government Center, 315 10th St., Worthington. Work will impact the Kragness Avenue area and Morningside neighborhood. The public is encouraged to stop in to meet the contractors and MnDOT staff and ask questions about the project.

Constructing a new alignment is included in this second phase of Minnesota 60 construction from Paul Avenue to south of the Union Pacific Railroad bridge. This phase also includes constructing the first roundabout on Highway 60 at Nobles County Road 35.

Union Pacific Railroad Bridge construction over Minnesota 60 is also expected to begin in June. Both projects will require a new Minnesota 60 detour in late-June. Instead of using Nobles County Road 35, the detour will extend north along Nobles County Road 5 to Minnesota 60 for the remainder of the 2011 construction season.

Highway 60 phase 3 construction from Nobles County Road 35 to Interstate 90 begins in 2012.

R & G Construction Company, Marshall, is the prime contractor for the segment from Paul Avenue to Nobles County Road 35. Mathiowetz Construction, Sleepy Eye, is the prime contractor on the rural segment from Nobles County Road 4 to Paul Avenue.
