20 years for husband convicted of killing wife
SHAKOPEE (AP) -- The husband of a community newspaper reporter has been sentenced in Scott County to 20 years in prison for killing the woman.
Forty-five-year-old Ruth Anne Maddox was killed in November 2008. Prosecutors say she had filed for divorce and threatened to expose her husband's online solicitation of men and women for sex.
A jury convicted Charles "Tony" Maddox in June on a charge of second-degree murder in the death of the Shakopee Valley News reporter. Maddox testified that he choked his wife at their Prior Lake townhouse, but in self-defense after she picked up a knife. Prosecutors say Maddox tried to cover up the crime by dressing as his wife, driving her car to the airport and leaving a note that said she was out of town.
The Star Tribune stated Ruth Anne Maddox worked at the Times-Union in Warsaw, Ind., before moving to Minnesota.
