Fulda celebrates Wood Duck Festival

FULDA -- The Fulda Wood Duck Festival will kick off tonight, with numerous activities going on throughout the weekend.

Starting the festival off will be a Burger Feed and the Fulda Big Band Concert tonight at Fulda City Park

The carnival will also run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. tonight

"This year wrist bands can be purchased for the entire weekend," said Amy Burmeister, one of the organizers of this year's festival. "So people can get one good for a day or get one good for the weekend."

The carnival will also be open on Friday, 4 p.m. to midnight, and Saturday, noon to midnight.

Friday there will be a Barbecue and Pie Dinner at the City Hall from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Fulda High School Band concert will be at 7 p.m. at the Fulda City Park. There will be fireworks on the lake at dusk.

Saturday's events will start off bright and early, with registration for the Women of Today 5K walk/run at 8 a.m.

"The walk/run usually brings in a lot of people," said Burmeister. "The run will start at 9, and the walk will start at 9:30."

New events on Saturday include the bike ride and the softball tournament. Registration for the bike ride will begin 8 a.m., with the ride starting at 8:30 a.m. The softball tournament will begin at 11 a.m. with registration at 10:30 a.m.

The horseshoe tournament will begin at 1 p.m. at the Fulda City Park. The Fulda Cannoneers will shoot off the canon at 2 p.m. at the Fulda Water tower.

At 3 p.m., walking tacos, pop, popcorn, and memorabilia will be sold at the Fulda City Hall.

The parade will begin at 6 p.m.

"We have a huge parade," said Burmeister. "There's always a big crowd; it's a really good parade."

Following the parade will be the Lion's Street Dance.

The Fireman's Pancake Feed will start at 8 a.m. on Sunday and will go until 1 p.m. at the Fulda Community Legion Hall. At 11 a.m. the Fulda Community Choir will perform a cantata at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church.

The Kiddie Tractor pull will begin at noon, as will Family Fun in the Park. Bob and the Beachcombers will be featured.

"Sunday in the park is pretty big," said Burmeister. "Bob has air balloon contests and water balloon contests. It's always a lot of fun."

The kids also go around with garbage bags and pick up trash around the park.

"Whoever gets the fullest bag gets a prize, and the park gets cleaned, too," said Burmeister.

The Swimming Pool Committee will sell root beer floats from noon to 5 p.m. at the Fulda City Park.

There will also be a silent auction and concessions available for purchase throughout the afternoon.
