ADRIAN -- A Magnolia teenager is dead and another is in critical condition after an intersection accident east and south of Adrian Wednesday shortly after noon.

Montana Jo Honermann, 15, of rural Magnolia, was the passenger in a Ford four-door sedan that was struck by a cement mixer truck at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Edwards Avenue, three miles south of Nobles 35, east of Adrian. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Ford, Shelby Ann Schieck, 17, of Adrian, was taken by helicopter to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. She was in critical condition as of 6:45 p.m. Wednesday.

According to information from the Nobles County Sheriff's Office, it appears the Schieck vehicle was eastbound on 280th Street and either did not stop or pulled out in front of a loaded cement truck that was southbound on Edwards Avenue. The truck was driven by William Dean Reetz of Rushmore.

According to Nobles County Sheriff Kent Wilkening, Honermann was not carrying any identification at the time of the accident, and Schieck was unconscious and unable to provide information regarding her passenger's name.

Authorities were tasked with discovering who the passenger was, and Honermann was later identified by her parents.

Wilkening said the crash is still under investigation. Adrian and Worthington Ambulances responded to the scene, along with Adrian Rescue, the Adrian Police Department, the Nobles County Sheriff's Office and the Minnesota State Patrol.
