Vietnam Navy vets urged to contact county VSO

WORTHINGTON -- Nobles County Veterans Service Officer Bill "Brock" Brockberg is requesting all Nobles County Navy veterans of the Vietnam conflict contact him regarding an announcement this week that 72 additional U.S. Navy ships have been added to the list of those that came in close proximity to the spread of the defoliant Agent Orange.

Many of the 72 U.S. Navy ships added to the list are Blue-water ships. Crew members aboard these ships at specific times are presumed to have been exposed to Agent Orange. This exposure in turn, may lead to 14 different illnesses the VA has recognized as being caused by such exposure.

Brockberg remembers one of the ships on the list now, the USS Wrangel, that wasn't on this list when he filed a claim on behalf of a Nobles County Navy veteran. Another new ship which may have been a duty station for yet another Nobles County Veteran is the USS Hermitage, a landing ship tank or landing ship dock. Any veteran who served on those two ships should contact Brockberg at (507) 295-5292 or by e-mail at

The Nobles County Veterans Service office is located on the third floor of the Nobles County Government Center, 315 10th St., Worthington.
