Ellsworth celebration starts Friday
ELLSWORTH --For the second year in a row, the McDermott Family Carnival will return to the Ellsworth Family Fun Days celebration this weekend, promising a bigger and better Midway, complete with a Ferris Wheel, Tilt-a-Whirl and perhaps even a giant slide.
Ellsworth, located in far southwest Nobles County, will kick off its annual summer celebration with the crowning of Little Miss Ellsworth at 6 p.m. Friday, followed by a kid's Pedal Pull at 6:30 p.m., and Ellsworth Family Fun Run/Walk at 7:30 p.m. More than 70 individuals have registered for the walk/run, which includes a 5K run, 2 mile walk and 1 mile kids run. Carnival rides will open at 6 p.m. Friday. For adults, a DJ will spin music into the night, starting at 9 p.m., at Billy's Bar.
While the community celebration has moved up this year to accommodate the Midway, the second major change is the parade, which will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday. The theme this year is, "Ellsworth Community 'Sticking' Together," in reference to all of the sticks, branches and tree limbs that had to be cleared away following the April ice storm, according to Carla Schilling, who serves on the planning committee.
The complete schedule for Saturday and Sunday follows:
1 p.m.: Midway opens
4 p.m.: Legion Bingo under the tent
4:30 p.m.: Ice cream and barbecues served at the Senior Citizens Center
6 p.m.: Parade
8 p.m.: Cow Pie Bingo, north of the Exchange State Bank.
9 p.m.: Screaming Cactus Band begins at Billy's Bar
9:30 a.m. to noon: Firemen's Pancake Feed, Ellsworth Public School
10:30 a.m.: Community Worship Service, Ellsworth Public School
Noon: Big ticket drawing, Ellsworth Public School
"We are hoping for sunshine," Schilling said. "That's always a big thing, but you can't do nothing about Mother Nature."
