Man arrested for wielding sword

ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Lyon County Sheriff's Department apprehended a 51-year-old male from Rock Rapids early Saturday morning after receiving a report that he was wielding a sword and committed an assault.

Deputies, along with the Lyon County Special Response Team were called to the scene at 3 a.m. Saturday, where they learned the suspect had entered a residence, believed to be his own, following the assault.

Two hours later, the suspect surrendered to the deputies surrounding his home.

Hiram Wilson Meadows, 407 S. Adams St., was arrested and charged with one count of assault with a dangerous weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor, and one count of going armed with intent, a class D felony. He is being held in the Lyon County Jail.

Assisting the Lyon County Sheriff's Department at the scene was an officer from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
